Urth Caffé – Los Angeles

The day we went to Beverly Hills was a gloomy one…

There were a lot of options for brunch in Beverly Hills but I picked the celebrity favourite, Urth Caffé.

It’s like a high-end cafeteria cause you line up to order food and find your own table.

Chicken curry sandwich / Pizza Catona / clam chowder / Earl Grey tiramisu / Spanish Latté….

Surprisingly, the food was really good and it was big portioned.  First time trying Spanish Latte, which is basically espresso with condensed milk. OMG so fattening yet yummy!

Parisian Boulangeries & Pâtisseries Version 2

This is another post about Parisian Boulangeries and Pâtisseries (Version 1 is here) and it’s about all the carbs I ate in Paris!

There’s nothing really opened on a public holiday night.. even Carre-Four was closed. We ended up grabbing some dinner at a bakery…

quiche from a random bakery…. soggy soggy soggy

mille-feuille!

There’s also a boulangerie near our apartment that won Best Baguette in 2013 and decided to give it a try…

I can’t possibly eat a baguette for breakfast but I can eat sweets haha!pistachio eclair

pain au chocolat….

Coincidentally, when I went to visit Notre Dame, there was the Fête du pain( Bread Festival) in the courtyard.Inside the tent, there were demonstrations of bread making and freshly baked goodies on sale…

I went on two separate days and tried… baked apple tart?????

baguette with nutella!

 breakfast with a view!

Another new find on this trip was the Pâtisserie  Pain de Sucre in the Marais.Tentation (raspberry and pistachio tart)…… it was very pretty and tasted as good as it looks…

Because it was so good, I bought another cake to eat later by the banks of the river..Bollywood (pineapple mousse infused with cilantro, pistachio cake base, candied pineapple core)….the prettiest bridge in Paris, Pont Alexander III

One of my favourite places to go is the gourmet floor of department stores.  I went to Galleries Lafayette again and even thought there’s so much variety to choose from, I only bought sweets.pistachio mousse tart…..

There’s also a counter that specializes in gourmet éclairs…Vanille noix de pécans….. I love the crunchy pecans on top as it gives the normally soft éclair a crunchy texture…

Passion chocolat laitthis éclair had a very strong passion fruit taste.. which gave this a bit of a kick!

and MACARONS!!!

pistachio macaron from Ladurée ….

Venezuela macaron from La Maison du chocolat…….

salted caramel macaron from Pain de Sucre

A Revisit of Café Constant – Paris, France

The last time we were in Paris, we ate at Café Constant three times cause it was that good.  This time in Paris, I also went back to Café Constant with high expectations.

We got there could immediately see the difference, apart from the slight exterior renovation, THERE’S NO LINE UP!! Apparently the kitchen doesn’t close in the afternoon so there’s continuous service.

expensive Orangina….. 4 euros!

It turns out the menu hasn’t changed and I got to order my fav dishes!

raviole de homard à la crème légère de crustacés (lobster ravioli with light shellfish sauce) …. my friend ordered this but didn’t like it.. but I thought it tasted as delicious as it did 3 years ago….terrine de foie gras de canard maison, pain de mie toasté (toast with foie gras).. an extra piece of foie, which was accompanied by a price increase!

Gambas entières grillées à la plancha, riz thai safrané (whole king prawns grilled with saffron Thai rice)…  This was my favourite dish from last time so I had very high expectations…. and was majorly let down.   This was not the jumbo king prawns we had last time.. this was the normal type of prawns…

I was a bit disappointed this time since I had very high expectations….

After dinner, we went to see Paris at night! gorgeous flowers by Jeff Leatham at FS Paris…

Rikuro – Osaka, Japan

A missed post from the Osaka trip!!!

I tend to gravitate towards lineups.. and we saw this long line and the aroma coming from the shop smelled sooooooooo good.

I didn’t know what I was lining up for..  There were 2 lines which apparently was for “cold” cheesecake and “hot” cheesecake.  We lined up for the hot cheesecake, fresh out of the oven!

it’s the type of baked cheese that’s soft and fluffy!

yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm .. it’s so good that we ate most of it before dinner!

Pastry and Bakery Star 26 @ Grand Hyatt Hotel Fukuoka, Japan

Since we were on vacation, we spoiled ourselves with cake for breakfast at Grand Hyatt’s bakery.

We went in May so it was strawberry season.. ..

strawberry mille-feuille..

more strawberry creme cakes…

strawberry Mont Blanc

I didn’t particularly like it…I mean it looks pretty but I miss the chestnut taste of the traditional mont blanc..

We also ordered some non-strawberry items:

matcha and red bean roll

cheesecake….

egg tart…. this was the only disappointing item…
