Stolle – St. Petersburg, Russia

One of the most impressive sights in St. Petersburg is the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood.

Around the corner from the church is Stolle, a famous cafe for pierogis.  The pierogi  which I normally eat is a dumpling but pierogi in Russia is pie.

Stolle is a self-serve cafe and you pick from an assortment of pies that are displayed.  Our tour package included 2 pieces of pie per person, so we chose:

salmon pie… my favourite! lots of salmon!

egg and green onion pie

meat pie

cabbage pie

lemon pie…. not too sweet nor sour..

Loved the pie crust.. very buttery and crumbly!  Each piece of pie we ordered cost around 35- 95 rubles ($1-3 CAD).. so it’s a very good deal!

Russian Cuisine @ St. Petersburg, Russia

We had 2 days in St. Petersburg and lunches on both days were included in the SPB tour package.  For lunch on the first day, the guide took us to a hotel restaurant to sample Russian cuisine.

The food was already set, so we had:

Russian Borscht….it’s red because its main ingredient is beet root..

Russian beef stroganoff…

ice cream

The food was average and this restaurant was chosen because it was the only decent restaurant near Peterhof Palace.
