Xi Yan Sweets 囍宴 甜 – Hong Kong

It was another friend’s birthday and she picked her favourite restaurant, Xi Yan, for dinner.

Previously, I’ve been to the Elements and the Wanchai branches, but this one specializes in dessert!

greenhouse tomato is wasabi sesame sauce… my fav!!! love the sauce!

dried scallop and choi sum salad with Chinese dressing… love the texture and the refreshing taste..

shrimp and crab relish on baguette….

non-spicy dan dan noodles… even though this dish was sauce-less, it was still very flavourful

crispy stuffed duck with glutinous rice… this wasn’t as good as before because the duck was really tough..

Zhenjiang spareribs.. tender and full of flavour

green tea and black sesame glutinous rice dumplings… couldn’t taste the green tea flavour…

caramel glutinous rice with banana ice-cream.. interesting combination

apple crisp with milk ice-cream…. this is sort of like apple crumble but the crumbles were too hard!

I really do like Xi Yan but the food is really overpriced…the meal came to $270 per person!

Xi Yan Private Dining – Hong Kong

after the amazzzzing mini meal at Xi Yan Flavours… i decided to go to Xi Yan Private Dining (the original restaurant.. before Jacky expanded Xi Yan)

nice arty asian decor.. anyways.. they have a super value set lunch for $88 (including a soup, an entree dish, vegetables, rice and dessert) .. well.. comparatively cheaper than their dinner set.. so i “treated” my mom..

Crispy tangerine peel spareribs again!! cause i love it!

crispy stuffed duck with glutinous rice … it was kinda dry in my opinion…

and yes.. i couldn’t resist and ordered the uber expensive tomato… but look!  it’s 2 tomatoes! they kitchen said the tomatoes are smaller than normal.. so i got an extra one!! woopie!! but i couldn’t really tell that it’s smaller..

banana icecream.. nothing special.. i like the lycee icecream more…

..a high quality contemporary asian set lunch.. yah!

Xi Yan Flavours – Hong Kong

my foodie aunt took me to Xi Yan Flavours  in elements for an afternoon snack..

back then… i haven’t heard of Jacky Yu cause i don’t watch tvb programs.. anyways.. i got there.. saw his photo.. and then realized that my mom has his cookbook… that was when i knew he was famous!!

japanese green house tomato with wasabi sesame sause…. the sauce is really really good…and the plate was flooded with it.. so yay!! more sauce for dipping the tomato.  by the way.. his cookbook teaches you how to make this dish.. i’ll have to try to make it myself someday..

fusion!! crab roe + meat with baguette .. i like the combination… kind of like the crab dip my mom makes… but this is purely crab flavour!!

orange peel pork ribs… this is really really tasty.. with every bite, you can taste the orange peel favour… i love it!!

lycee ice-cream… it was ok.. but not as special as the other dishes…

after the visit, jacky yu became my celebrity chef idol!~~ he’s that inventive with his cooking!!!
