McSorley’s Ale House – Hong Kong

Another 2-for-1 Soho Monday deal and this time, we tried McSorleys.

McSorley’s serves British pub food …so of course, we got the classics:

Beef & Guiness Pie…. flakey and buttery crust..

lots of thick cut beef.. but kind of tough..

fish and chips… the skin was kinda soggy…

brownie with vanilla ice-cream… weirdest tasting brownie ever.. it didn’t taste chocolately nor fudgy enough… and the vanilla ice-cream tasted like soy…

FAIM? un peu…

Mana! Fast Slow Food – Hong Kong

I’ve recently joined a gym and have been going almost every day after work.  To not waste the effort put into working out, I’ve been looking for healthier dining options.  One of my finds is Mana!

Mana! specializes in organic, vegan and raw food.. perfect for an after gym meal!

Most of the seats are outdoors…. kindly like in an alley? But you wouldn’t know by the way they decorated the space!

Mana! Bliss Flat (avocado, hummus, cucumber and spinach wrapped with organic brick oven-baked flatbreads)…. This was my half.. and it’s very filling .. but kinda expensive at 75HKD.

large salad (mix of peas, beans, roasted vegetables and quinoa)…   There’s 2 sizes for salads (small for 65HKD and large for 95HKD.  The small box on display seemed kind of small so we got a large. It turns out they fill the box past the rim….. so much food that my friend had the leftover for next day’s lunch!

Harrington’s – Hong Kong

With our spiffy Asiaxpat Super Monday’s card, we went to Harrington’s for a 2-for-1 dinner to celebrate last week of school!

Harrington’s is a British gastropub… but the setting is more that of fine-dining….

Cheers! Happy Hour drinks are 1/2 off.. my lime margarita …

warm bread with pesto sauce!

The 7 of us ordered 6 mains to share:

We ordered 2 Fisherman’s Pie (medley of seafood in rich creamy sauce with a crusty topping of Parmesan mash)… love this! lots of seafood and it was so creamy!

Steak and Guinness Pie with green pea mash… flaky pastry but not enough steak…

Seafood Supreme pizza (prawns, scallops and calamari with garlic and chili)….

Harrington`s Cobb Salad (grilled chicken with egg, bacon, avocado, croutons and crumbled blue cheese over mixed leaves, tossed in balsamic)

Linguini Vongole… the clams weren’t fresh and smelt/tasted spoilt.. we told the head waiter, he smelt it, yet insisted that these clams were fresh and from today’s market. It seemed like he didn’t believe us and he unwillingly let us choose another dish..

Instead, we chose Fettuccine Marinara (medley of seafood in a mildly spiced tomato marinara sauce).. too spicy for me!

Apart from the Linguine Vongole, the food here was pretty good!

Tim Ho Wan 添好運點心專門店 (Central) – Hong Kong

Tim Ho Wan opened another branch.. in IFC!!! Yay for cheap dim sum in the most expensive mall in HK! Well…actually, Tim Ho Wan is located in the MTR mall of HK station.

We went at 11:30am and by noon it was packed…but this is better than the Mongkok branch cause there’s air-con when you wait!

The dimsum is the same as the other branch except it’s a slightly more expensive.. but still a lot cheaper than the dimsum in Central!

Brasserie de L’ile – Hong Kong

Back from Shanghai! Going to finish posting some old drafts before blogging about the new food finds in Shanghai!

In between exams, my friends celebrated their birthdays at Brasserie de L’ile. We each ordered a set lunch (priced $98-128).

Usually, the appetizer choices for set lunch are either soup or salad, but at this restaurant, another choice is poached eggs with spinach.. so of course I picked that! The egg was runny and there was a lot of spinach… it’s like eggs florentine minus the bread!

For the main, I picked mussels and fries! The mussels were smaller than the ones I eat in Vancouver and the sauce wasn’t too flavourful.

Yumm… the fries came with mustard mayo!

My friend ordered the tenderloin and I had a bite… very tender and juicy!

It also came with THE SMALLEST dessert.. it’s a lemon tart but looks like a mini cookie.. Nevertheless, the lemon filling was so thick and condense that I felt like I ate a regular sized tart!
