Ice Monster – Taipei

i became an ice lover (after falling in love with Tong Bak Fu’s marshmellow ice) and when i went to taipei, i searched every where for ice dessert!

to continue my eating rampage in the Yong Kang area (Du Xiao Yue and Ding Tai Fung are also in the area)…i found Ice Monster!

Ice Monster is famous for its shaved iced and for having sorbet on top of the ice!

i ordered the mango combo and the shaved ice was topped with a fair amount of mango, a scoop of mango sorbet and a drizzle of evaporated milk…

a closer look!!

the mango sorbet was really good (not sour) and the mango pieces were a perfect accompaniment  for the ice

however.. if i had to choose between shaved ice or marshmellow ice, i would choose marshmellow ice because it has flavour (unlike the shaved ice which you have to eat with the mango or the ice would be tasteless)

Du Xiao Yue 度小月 – Taipei

i said in the previous post that i had to wait half an hour for Din Tai Fung… so in that half an hour.. we went to Du Xiao Yue (度小月) down a few was our second time to Du Xiao Yue..

This restaurant is famous for their Danzimian (担仔面) .. and the noodle stand is near the entrance and the noodle chef sits on a short stool and cooks.. quite interesting..

the famous Tainan danzimian .. i couldn’t taste anything special.. but my dad really liked it…

anyways.. the first time at Du Xiao Yue.. we ordered…

fusion?  a sushi roll…….

fried crab legs!! yumm!

fried prawn rolls…. nothing too special

grilled fish….

taiwanese caviar…..kinda salty

i think this would be my favourite dish here… fried oysters!! yummy!! but it’s really filling since the fried dough is kinda thick..

Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐 – Taipei

so..i’ve visited the Din Tai Fung in Singapore and Hong wasn’t as good as Shanghai.. but o well…

anyways.. on my to do list…was to visit the original Din Tai Fung in taipei.. and so i did! this march! and ate there 3 times!

the first time i went there, i had to wait for half an hour.. and then i got smarter…and got there before their opening time..

so.. i ordered my usual but found something new…

steamed mashed red bean dumplings and steamed mashed taro dumplings!!  (5 of each)

steamed mashed red bean dumpling was a bit too sweet..

steamed mashed taro dumpling was heavenly!! soft.. not to sweet.. so not too filling.. love.. and i didn’t like taro before

i have now added steamed mashed taro dumplings to my order list!
