The Spotted Pig – New York City

I planned the first full day in the city around food (no surprise here).  The plan was to have breakfast at the hotel, work that off by walking the entire length of the High Line, have lunch and dessert in West Village, work that off by walking to Soho, have afternoon dessert, take a break eating by visiting Wall Street 9/11 Memorial, then finally, have dinner.  What a jam packed day!

High Line!

I love the idea of an elevated park in a urban concrete jungle.. wish Hong Kong has this….

After walking the entire High Line, we continued to West Village for lunch at The Spotted Pig.

The Spotted Pig is one of the most influential restaurants in the world.  Why? cause it started the whole gastropub trend. O! and it has one Michelin star.

The interior decor reminds me of a pub in some quaint British countryside.

There are so many pig figurines!

Since we were still stuffed from breakfast, we didn’t order much.

soup of the day: tomato soup… kind of sour..

Chargrilled Burger with Roquefort Cheese & Shoestring Fries.…. mom and I shared the famous burger.  Unfortunately, I didn’t know Roquefort is blue cheese.. so I didn’t really like this… The patty was juicy and the shoestring fries are like hickory sticks!

Once again, I made friends with people sitting next to us.  Both of them are foodies and gave us lots of food recommendations! Thanks!!!

Shake Shack – New York City

Shake Shack is another item on my to-try list in New York.  I’ve seen so many Instagram photos and blog posts about it.  So for dinner the first night, before watching The Phantom of the Opera, we ate at Shake Shack’s location on 8th Ave.

There were sooooo many people, long lineup and not enough seats.

there’s a beeper that lights up when your food is ready….

We ordered:

Shack Burger (cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce)…. this was so yummmmmy.  The bread is the same as any fast food joint but it’s the meat and ShackSauce that sets it apart.  The meat was juicy and tender, and on top of that, the ShackSauce made it even juicier.

Smoke Shack (Cheeseburger topped with all-natural applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce)….

fries.. average.. not too crispy..

black and white shake (vanilla and fudge)… this was too sweet for my liking… if it weren’t that sweet, I would have liked it…  very thick..

Because the burger was so good, we had to have it again before we left.  This time, we went to the original shack at Madison Square Park.

I read about the 45 minutes line at lunch, so we went right when it opened… and there was a line (a short one)!

This time, I took pictures of closeup:

Shack Burger… Kinda small burger.. but o so delicious!

Smoke Shack .. all the meaty goodness..

fries… looks kinda soggy…

strawberry shake…we mentioned that we didn’t like Black and White cause it was so sweet… so they suggested we try strawberry… this was less sweet.. but again, it too was overly sweet.

I suggest to go to Shake Shack just for their Shack burgers…. not the shakes.

Momofuku Milk Bar – New York City

There were so many things on my to-eat-list in New York and one of the most anticipated meal/snacks is of David Chang’s culinary empire.  He opened many award-winning restaurants, including Momofuku Noodle Bar, Momofuku Ssäm Bar, Má Pêche, Milk Bar and Momofuku Ko.

After checking into the hotel, we went to the Chambers Hotel, where the midtown branch of Momofuku Milk Bar is located.

Love the decor…. neon lights and chalkboard writing!  Yes, the restaurant Má Pêche is located behind the milk bar.

We ordered one of the most popular item, cereal milk soft serve.

It tasted like horlicks flavoured ice-cream, topped with cornflakes-like cereal. Pretty interesting but nothing too special…. and the cereal kept falling off…

We also bought composte cookies to try and for friends back home. It was too sweet for my liking… it had a pretty interesting flavour.. tasted a bit like coffee?
