Aux Charpentiers – Paris, France

This time in Paris, we missed out on crêpes!!!! Why? because the famous crêperies, Crêperie Josselin and Breizh Café were closed in August… so the hotel concierge recommended Crêperie des Canettes and guaranteed that it would be open… BUT NO….. we walked there in the 39 degree weather and it turned out to be closed!!!! We were too hot, tired and hungry to look for another crêperie, so I consulted my trusty DK Eyewitness guidebook for a nearby recommendation… Aux Charpentiers, which was 2 blocks away…

We got there around 7pm and the place was practically empty.  I thought it was another tourist trap but an hour later, the place was all filled up!

We ordered the summer menu at 28.5 Euros (choice of appetizer, main and dessert)…  it’s such a joke because most main course choices have a supplemental fee…

Andalouse Gazpacho…kind of spicy…

marinated Scotland salmond with honey and oil of olive… big portion!

cod in spices crust with basmati rice

tagliatelle with cepe mushrooms in cream sauce (additional 1.5 euros)… I don’t know why you have to pay extra for this.. it’s just plain pasta!

organic chicken with grate zucchinis (extra 1.5 Euros).. loved the zucchini-potato-omelette-side….

cake with walnuts and coffee sauce with ice cream.. the cake was kind of dry…

Gavottes that came with the ice cream!! my favourite French crispy crepe biscuit!

Crème brûlée (extra 1.5 euros)…

The staff  didn’t make a fuss when we only ordered 3 sets for the 4 of us…. a plus!
