Chambar – Vancouver

Just came back from Vancouver!!!I ate sooooooo much so it’ll probably take a while for me to finish blogging about the Vancouver trip (and the hk eating adventures will have to a take a back seat)..

Right before I left Vancouver, I surprised my brother with an early birthday dinner @ Chambar since I’m going to miss his bday in September.  I haven’t been to Chambar before but I heard great things about the place.

It’s a hip and trendy restaurant which serves authentic Belgian food!

For appetizers, we ordered:

CARPACCIO DE THON ET CONCOMBRE:  CHARRED GRILLED YELLOWFIN TUNA CARPACCIO, CUCUMBER & FINE HERB GAZPACHO, SMOKED HERRING CAVIAR, SUMAC CHILI SALT

i wrapped the tuna with the cucumber salad…. very delicious!!

LES TAPAS with sardines, deep-fried escargot and something else (which i forgot)

this was ok.. not amazing.. i think deep-frying the escargot made it dry and tasteless….

LES COQUILLES ST. JACQUES: SEARED SCALLOPS, SMOKED KUROBUTA PORK CHEEK, PICKLED GREEN BEANS & HORSERADISH VINAIGRETTE

tasty… but seriously, the portion is tiny.. so i couldn’t have enough to give a full comment..

and for mains:

FLÉTAN AUX PISTACHES: PISTACHIO CRUSTED ROASTED HALIBUT, SAUTÉED KALE,LEMON QUINOA. TOMATO, GINGER & TAMARIND BROTH

this fish was tasteless and the broth was too sour…

CANARD ET CHEVRE: ROASTED DUCK BREAST, GOAT CHEESE & TARRAGON GNOCCHI, SAUTÉED SCALLIONS, HAZELNUT GASTRIQUE

surprisingly, the duck was quite tender even though it was roasted!

CHEVREUIL AUX CERISES: VENISON SHORT LOIN, BLUEBERRY & VENISON SAUSAGE, PACCHERI PASTA, PROSCIUTTO , BASIL PESTO, FRESH CHERRY CONCASSE, CHAMPAGNE MUSTARD

the loin was very tender.. but the portion is so tiny!

CONGOLAISE: MUSSELS COOKED WITH A TOMATO COCONUT CREAM, SMOKED CHILI & LIME, FRESH CILANTRO

yummm! i think the mussels really lives up to its hype.. there’s plenty of mussels and the tomato broth was so rich with lots of fresh tomatos and onions! but there’s not a strong coconut taste…

and desserts:

Le café belge: Espresso cheesecake with belgian chocolate mousse,crème de cacao gelée & crisp chocolate wafers

this was sooooooooo rich!!!! yummmm!

Tartelette aux framboises: Raspberry almond frangipane tart, lemongrass coconut ice cream, caramel sauce & raspberry tuile

i loved the lemongrass coconut ice-cream! so unique!

I liked Chambar – the servers were friendly, the food was unique and tasty… but it’s quite expensive (~$30 for entrees) considering that it’s casual dining… and there’s no bread!!!

FAIM? OUI OUI!!!!
